MY, WHAT BIG MUSCLES YOU HAVE, DOCTOR! The Tale of Little Miss Christy Hudd PART ONE OF THREE Once upon a time, there was a young teacher, who worked in a backwoods mountain mission school. She was very loved by her students and their parents, not only because of her teaching ability, but also because she cared very deeply about the mountain people. Although Little Miss Christy Hudd had been in Cutter Gap for almost a year, the beloved schoolmarm was well-known for her uncanny ability to lose her bearings and get lost in the Cove. More than once, search parties had been sent to retreive her from an unfulfilled mission. One day, Little Miss Christy Hudd (LMCH) found out that her dear friend Fairlight Spencer was feeling ill. She quickly packed up a basket of goodies, put on her little red coat and headed for the Spencers. After walking for quite a while, LMCH realized that the Spencer cabin was not where she thought it was..... or maybe she wasn't where she thought she was...... "Must've made a wrong turn at Beaver Creek Dam," she said to herself. She continued to walk, hoping to see something to help her get oriented. It was getting late, andhe was just about to sit down in a heap and cry her eyes out, when she noticed a single cabin up near the top of the hill. LMCH scurried toward the unidentified cabin, "Halloooo, halloooo!" she cried. The door to the cabin opened, and the large form of the Big, Bad Doc stood in the doorway. "Why good afternoon, Little Miss Christy Hudd," the Big, Bad Doc said sweetly. "Hello, Doctor. I was going to the Spencers', but it seems I've gotten turned around. It's awfully chilly out. May I come inside and rest a spell?" "Certainly," the Big, Bad Doc (BBD) replied with delight. This was an unexpected surprise, maybe for dinner. "Come in. Why don't you sit over here by the fire. Let me fix you some nice, hot tea." BBD brought the tea to her and sat down beside her, a funny look on her face. "He always looks at me with that strange look," LMCH thought to herself, "but I can't figure out why......." PART TWO Suddenly, Little Miss Christy Hudd realized that she was staring at the Big Bad Doc. "My, What big eyes you have, Doctor!" she exclaimed. "The better to see you with, my dear," he replied. "Why is he being so nice to me?" LMCH wondered to herself, "Usually he says things to make me mad, just so he can laugh at me and my temper." As LMCH was pondering this, the Big Bad Doc took her delicate hand in his giant paw and gently lifted it to his lips. LMCH was very surprised by this. "My, what big hands you have, Doctor!" She cried, then stood up to leave. She wasn't cold anymore, and she was definitely very confused. Was this some kind of strange dream? "I feel like I'm in a fairy tale," she told herself. The Big Bad Doc put his hands on her shoulders. She could feel his breath in her ear when he whispered, "The better to squeeze you with my dear." With that, he pulled her into a tight embrace. "Wow!" thought Little Miss Christy Hudd. The Big Bad Doc is very strong...... yet very gentle. She remembered how soft his lips felt, just moments ago, on her hand. "My, what soft lips you have, Doctor!" She could hardly hear his reply, as he bent his head down close to hers. "The better to kiss you with, my dear." With that, the Big Bad Doc kissed Little Miss Christy Hudd flat on the mouth. It was a good thing that the BBD already has his arms around her, because LMCH was on the verge of a genuine swoon! LMCH tore herself away from the passionate embrace. She didn't want to, but she couldn't think straight and she knew she needed to clear her head. The BBD relaxed his arms, and LMCH, not realizing how much she was relying on those strong arms to keep her vertical, began to faint. Quickly, the arms were around her again, giving her security. "My, what big muscles you have, Doctor!" She said in a dreamy voice. "The better to carry you away with me to be my bride, my dear," the Big Bad Doc said. With that, Little Miss Christy Hudd finally could not postpone her swoon any longer and passed out right there in the BBD's arms. She awoke some time later. It took her a moment to figure out where she was. But then she saw the BBD sitting beside her, just watching her with that funny look. "You never responded to my request," the Big Bad Doctor stated matter-of-factly. "And what request was that?" asked the puzzled, and I think by now we'd all agree, dense, school teacher. "Why, to let me carry you away as my bride, my dear." The smile on his face was sweet enough to make a bee give up honey. Again, LMCH was feeling a little dizzy; she swooned back into her chair. After three of four re-enactments of this same scene, LMCH was finally able to stay conscious long enough to accept the BBD's proposal. They were married a few days later, and lived happily ever after. PART THREE Little Miss Christy Hudd and the Big Bad Doc had a very long and rewarding marriage. One of the rewards was their large family: Jack and Jill - twins who inherited their mother's ability (or should I say inability) to ever reach their intended destination! Hansel and Gretl - another set of twins!! These two were very creative, as well as scientifically minded like their father. They built the very first gingerbread house in the Cove. This experiment ended rather abruptly during the first thunderstorm after its construction. The gingerbread roof turned to mush, and the peppermint lamppost melted. However, one good thing came from the experiment - Hansel and Gretl discovered that moist gum drops can be used for trapping small animals instead of using those steel claws. They also founded the American Dental Association. Little Miss Muffet - as a young girl, she developed a severe case of arachnaphobia (fear of spiders). As soon as she was old enough to live on her own, she moved to New York City and married an exterminator. Mary - their youngest daughter, who as a small child had a pet lamb. She was a very loving, encouraging individual, and became the very first female deacon in the Cutter Gap Mission Church. She certainly was a good shepherd! THIS TIME IT REALLY IS THE END by Debbie
