Title: The Morning After Author: Lynda With the encouragement of friends I’m sharing this missing scene with you. It takes place right after the storm. Aside from Christy accepting Neil’s proposal I think I missed this scene as much. This is what I imagined happened prior to meeting David and Tom. I hope you like it. Review. Neil is outside thanking God and Christy is left to change. After struggling with her boot Christy finally gives up. “Neil!” she calls. He enters, hesitant, yet concerned. “I can’t seem to get my shoe over me ankle.” “Let me.” Neil began unlacing the boot to cover the swollen ankle. Christy had been struggling over what to say to him. She still didn’t have the words to express what was in her heart but she deeply needed to share her feelings with Neil. “Neil” she said cautiously. “I’m sorry I wasn’t more accepting of your confession yesterday. I know it took a lot for you to come here and tell me you loved me.” “It’s all right Christy. Now when you marry Grantland I won’t wonder “what if I had only been brave enough to tell you.”” He answered, carefully putting her shoe onto her foot. “Neil.” She touched his hands. “Did I hurt you?” he said checking her ankle. “No. I’ve hurt you.” She replied turning his face toward hers with her hand. She stroked his cheek tenderly. “No Christy you haven’t hurt me. I only want you to be happy and if Grantland will do that, then I will accept it. I love you. It’s that simple. You are my dearest friend and the woman I love. I can’t help loving you any more than you can help loving the children or Miss Alice or even Reverend Grantland.” “Neil. I’m so confused. Can you forgive me?” “There’s nothing to forgive. When you’re no longer confused you will know. Then you can decide what’s best for you.” Neil said, carefully tying Christy’s shoe. “Now try to stand on it. Does it hurt?” He asked very much a doctor. “A little.” “Just as I thought. All right I’ll carry you.” “Neil you can’t carry me all the way backs to the mission.” “Oh yes I can. And I will.” He said lifting her. He knew this might be the only time he would hold Christy so intimately. “Neil?” Christy whispered as they started down the hill. “I do love you too.” “I know. Now rest. Sleep will make you feel better.” And down the hill they went. Neil rested occasionally by leaning against a tree but he would not put down Christy. He tried to burn each moment into his soul. He feared these moments would have to last him a lifetime. Never would he love someone the way he loved Christy nor did he want to. “Christy!!!!” hollered the reverend. Neil and Christy saw David and Tom McHone down the hill apiece. (Insert movie scenes here)
