Title:"The Epidemic" Author: Ashley D. The Epidemic "Miz Christy, I need your help!" "Ruby Mae, what on earth is wrong?" I asked when she frantically ran to me for help. Then before she answered me I saw it, her freckles had multiplied and grown twice as big as they were before! "Miz Christy, I don't know what happened! I'm turning into one big freckle!" I grabbed my coat and told her that we needed to find Dr. MacNeill; that he'd know what was wrong. We went to is house first, but he was no where to be found, so we decided to try along the river. We didn't have to go far before we found him fly fishing. For just a minute, before Ruby Mae cried out, I watched as he cast into the water. He was the best at fly fishing, and made it seem so easy and realxing. "Doc. MacNeill, I need your help, look at my face!" When he turned around, he dropped his pole and ran over to Ruby Mae. "Oh no, I've seen this before, it's the Spring air that's affecting these freckles!" Ruby Mae started asking how to get rid of them, and he replied, "I need to get you some lemons!" "Doctor, where in the world are you going to get lemons now? Have you seen something like this before? Is this a normal sickness?" "I'll talk to you later Christy, I need to get Ruby Mae to my cabin right now, where I have a few lemons Sessal just sent to me. You go check and make sure no one else has this problem. If they do, send them to my cabin right away!" As I watched them run off, I was so confused. I couldn't imagine an outbreak of FRECKLES because of the Spring air!! What kind of disease was it anyway, was it harmful, and why in the world had Sessal sent lemons to Dr. MacNeill? I made myself stop questioning everything then, so I could run check on everyone else. Then I saw Birdseye coming at me and knew at once he had the disease. I was about to tell him to get to Dr. MacNeill's right away, when I saw the moonshine bottle in his hand. I just knew he was drunk, and didn't want to approach him, but he might die if I didn't warn him. So I calmly walked up and said, "Birdseye, you have a disease, and need to get to MacNeill's cabin right away." He turned and looked at me furiously. "Hey!" I jumped, then looked around and saw that I was in my bed and Ruby Mae had awakened me. She didn't have large freckles, and I realized it had all been a dream. "Miz Christy, breakfast is almost ready and preacher's lookin for you." I got up and got dressed, just happy to know that there wasn't any freckle epidemic! Breakfast passed with nothing unusual happening. Miss Alice talked about her recent trip to Catalechie, while Ruby Mae talked about some new possum recipes. I also noticed how perfect David looked, with his hair combed just right, and his perfect smile. After breakfast, he approached me and asked if'd I'd like to go on a walk around the pond. "Sure David, that sound's great." We talked about many things as we walked around the pond, then he asked, "Christy, will you go to the Spencer's singing with me tonight?" "I'd love to David!" "Great, I'll have the most beautiful date tonight then," he said as he smiled down at me. I smiled back at him and gave him a small kiss on the cheek as we continued our walk that beatutiful Spring day. The End!
