I'm not trying to make money off of this, and know the story and characters of "Christy" belong to the LeSourd family. This is my first attempt in quite awhile at poetry, so please be kind! Sympathy votes appreciated. . . Springtime in the Gap It was the first day of spring in Cutter Gap, And many a soul was found taking a nap. It seems Bird's-Eye and his men were a little too free With the moonshine -- it's scent now wafting on the breeze. Meanwhile Ruby Mae's heart nearly burst with glee As she sat and visited with Aunt Polly Teague. Her freckles, it seemed, did clearly tell She would one day marry a boy who lived in yonder dell. All this was lost on David as he sat nearby, For one thing, and one thing only, currently held his eye. A folded up picture from his pocket he retrieved -- A ‘citified' picture of the preacher on GQ magazine. Now where is the doctor as springtime unfurls And the warm morning sun glints off of his curls? He's down by the river with his fishing line caught in a tree, As Christy stands nearby laughing with glee. Now with his hot Scottish temper, is not Christy being unwise? Ah, but wait! Neil abandons his pole and goes to her side. He tips her head up and gives her a kiss, As the robin's first song they proceed to totally miss. The End =)
